We like 4th root transformations as a way to deal with skewed distributions that contain zeros, because we don’t need to add a constant, as in log-transformations. We just ran across an add-in for ggplot that produces 4th-root transformed axes with sensible tick labels. It was created by Sean Anderson, available on Github, and details are here
